Making a Difference in the Health of America's Youth
- 64.5% of U.S adults aged 20 and older are considered overweight
- Nearly one in three U.S. adults has high blood pressure
- 20.8 million children and adults in the United States
have diabetes
- Over 550,000 Americans are diagnosed with heart failure every year
- Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death in the U.S.
These shocking statistics display the devastating aftermath of poor health habits that adults are facing in the United States today. With HealthCorps, our children and generations to come have the choice to reverse these trends and make a positive impact on their own health. Each year, an increased number of young people are diagnosed with high blood pressure and juvenile diabetes, due to the results of poor nutrition and lack of exercise. In fact, the number of children and teens has more than tripled since 1980 with nine million considered overweight.
Vemma CEO and President BK Boreyko is a principal sponsor of HealthCorps and donates a portion of Vemma product sales to this non-profit organization. HealthCorps is working to bring comprehensive health education programs into more American classrooms and offer today’s youth a brighter tomorrow. Its mission is to educate school-aged children about nutrition, exercise and mental resilience to fulfill the critical need to empower youth to live a healthier and self-fulfilled lifestyle. With a format similar to the Peace Corps, HealthCorps relies on recent college graduates, interested in health-related fields, to visit American classrooms to teach kids how to respect their bodies, open their minds and increase their awareness about wellness.
Be a part of this ground-breaking effort to bring HealthCorps to the forefront as a leading national organization dedicated to the health of our youth. HealthCorps is currently in 35 high schools in Florida, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. By 2009, HealthCorps expects to have a presence in nearly 65 schools and is preparing to introduce its program to schools in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Ohio and Texas. BK and Vemma need your help today to introduce the HealthCorps model of education and prevention to more schools around the nation!
